sirona's thread about bullying got me thinking.
there's another type of bullying, which, imho, can be far worse.
i'm talking about psychological bullying, where fear of a persons hysterical reaction forces us to act in manner that fits in with what the person wants.
Engman, life is crazy. Some men will abuse their wives then go and spend hundreds of dollars on them! Go figure? Could it be that some women can 'only' get their husbands to spend money on them by being abused? It sounds crazy, but then again, we live in a crazy world. Who's terrorizing who? I get your drift.
What goes on behind closed doors between couples is anyone's guess.

i've managed to survive 33 years (and a couple of weeks).
what a long strange trip it's been.. in spite of some tell-tale signs of aging (wrinkles around eyes, gray hair, mystified and sometimes terrified by the current youth culture) in some ways i still feel like a little kid who doesn't know anything.
what have you learned since then?
Make the most of it from here on in. I have no serious regrets. The trick is to never stop learning. I'll be twice your age come the new year and I'm more content than when I was 33. Better days are ahead of you, take advantage of them.

old story just came to mind as i was browsing through the watchtower's website (because i can't sleep and i truly find it entertaining) and read an article about abhoring that which is wicked.
i was never a jw - my husband was until he was 20, and is now inactive.
he told me a story that just infuriates me to no end, and i have to wonder if it is common.
Fararon, I suppose you will stand by and watch a person violate what you consider to be holy, sacred or of value? What Jesus did, he did in public, it wasn't abuse, if anything, they abused the sabbath to enrich themselves, plus it was recorded. Spousal abuse differs, it's done behind closed doors also on sabbath days and not reported enough. How many are hushed up?
Jesus was no 'wimp.' I often use his example of 'pushing' the limits. My father-in-law was a well built and a tolerant man. Only once did I ever see him use his power against another man. Did I consider him to be an unloving person, a violent person, a bad example? No way!
Paul said at Romans 12:18, "If possible, as far as it depends upon YOU, be peaceable to all men." It all depends.
Those who practice abusive behaviour need a taste of their own medicine! I personally know of individuals who abused their spouse got their asses kick by the spouses family members. That put a quick stop to the problem. What Jesus did, was the right thing!

I have never changed my approach, I go directly at YOU. Either on the spot or I'll coming knocking on your door. The question is, are you willing to confront the person?

hello.........this is a first for me- i've been reading some of your messages for some time now, and i must say you guys study your watchtower far better than i ever did.
i'm still a part of the congregation (and an elder), but i have to say i agree with many of your criticisms of the organization.
we've become just like the pharisees that jesus condemned............at our last assembly, the do and co warned against apostate material over and over again..........so i certainly think you're having a tremendous impact on their actions.
Greetings and welcome aboard. I see you've 'doneyourmath.'

since today is the "worldly" day of thanksgiving for many of us, it is a good time to reflect on what we can be thankful for.....anything come to mind?
You finally hit a topic that struck a cord, at least for me. Life , the dead cannot enjoy what I can. I'm making the most of what I can enjoy and that brings me contentment. I don't expect miracles or great things from people, just being themselves brings me pleasure. No need to impress me. Honesty, truthfulness and love just about covers everything.

this is a bit of meandering about my life.
in my life, i have undone most of the wt memes, i have worked on overcoming the negatives resulting from the abuses of my parents.
the emotional emptiness resulting (i think) from my mother's aloofness, noncomunication, nonsupport can't be deprogrammed.
Learn to let time be your friend SS. Your on the right track. When we have been misguided from childhood we need the proper directions to reroute our lives. Having positive and helpful friends will serve as useful cushions in moments of despair. Taking personal responsibility (self-help) is a great cure. Allow time to do its thing.
By the way, January 10, 2004 at my place is our next get together. 2PM.
